The Republican Committee of Allegheny County is sponsoring a charitable outreach project with the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to collect gently-used Scout uniforms and equipment, including camping gear from those families who no longer need these items and distribute them to needy Scouts in the county who cannot afford to purchase them. This project has a two-fold benefit: it helps youth who would most benefit from the many fun activities that also develop character and leadership as an integral part of Scouting, while it provides an easy, direct outlet for the best use of unneeded Scouting items.
Local Republican Committees are encouraged to participate by soliciting donations from Committee members, residents, churches, and community groups. The donation will be gathered locally at sites determined by each Republican Committee and then delivered to the RCAC office which will then get them to the Boy Scout organization.
This drive will begin immediately and culminate at the RCAC Fall Picnic in September. Republican Committees are encouraged to use the local media outlets to publicize this project.
This is an opportunity for the Republican Party to do ‘a good turn’, just like the great organization, BSA, extols its members to perform every day. The partnership of the Republican Party with the Scouts is a natural relationship because of their shared values and principles of service to God, Country, and Family.
