Committee Chairman’s Planner
On-Going Tasks:
- Recruit new committee members from registered Republicans in municipality.
- Schedule regular committee meetings at the municipal building or other public building, private home, or restaurant.
Inform members and voters of meetings via written notice, e-mail, and phone calls. Also send a press release about meeting to local newspaper - Preside over local committee meetings.
- Inform RCAC of local committee appointments or resignations using the Committee Appointment Form on a timely basis.
- Inform RCAC of local committee re-organizations (change in the officers) using the Reorganization Form.
- Keep a record of names and contact information of all committee members.
- Oversee fund-raising efforts.
- Pass on communications from RCAC to local committee members.
- Oversee training of new committee members.
Time-Specific Tasks:
January of odd-numbered years - (you can even begin in November of the previous year, right after the General Election) - Recruit candidates for municipal and school board offices.
Feb-Mar - Organize the circulation of candidate nominating petitions.
Feb-Apr – Coordinate voter registration drives.
Feb-Apr – Organize a fund-raiser.
Feb-June – encourage committee members to attend RCAC Lincoln Dinner.
Mar - May – Coordinate distribution of absentee ballots to elderly, college students, and the sick.
Apr-May – Coordinate canvassing and literature distribution before Primary.
May – Schedule Primary Election poll coverage; Coordinate phone banks before election; Pickup poll bags with campaign material, poll watcher certificates, and signs from RCAC and distribute to committee members; Coordinate Election Day Activities.
June-Aug – hold a local committee picnic.
Aug-Oct – Coordinate voter registration drives.
Sept-Oct – Encourage committee members to attend RCAC Fall Picnic
Sept-Nov – Coordinate distribution of absentee ballots.
Sept-Oct – Organize a fund-raiser.
Sept-Nov – Coordinate canvassing and literature distribution before General Election.
Late Oct-early Nov – Schedule General Election poll coverage; Coordinate phone banks before election; Pickup poll bags from RCAC with campaign material, poll watcher certificates, and signs and distribute to committee members; Coordinate Election Day Activities.
Dec – Hold a Holiday Party.
One-Time Tasks:
- Send a copy of your local committee by laws to RCAC.
- Send a copy of your local municipality’s sign ordinance to RCAC.
- Register your local committee with the County Election Board (for newly-organized committees).
